    Family and Creative Pursuits

Kilgarlin is the mother of four children. Her family life and faith have been the source of inspiration for many of her creative pursuits.

Her book, God's Love Letters: Overcoming Adversity discusses how God's love leads to spiritual resiliency. One of the challenges she has faced is having a seriously ill child. As she faced that challenge and others, she found balance and a new way forward. She wrote the book to inspire others who face adversity.

She also wrote Past Tense: 365 Daily Tools for Putting Stress Behind You – for Good! with her husband. The book provides daily solutions to triggered stress reactions and draws on her own experiences as a mother, scientist, and person of faith.

Kilgarlin also loves to paint and creates Christian art with her children. Art lessons with her children have become "a bonding time, no phones, just peace!!" She uses the signature I.K.S.K. Kilgarlin on artwork that she creates with her daughter Isabella. She is also working with her daughter Juliana to produce art. Kilgarlin is also an inspirational speaker.

    Charity Work

The Christian faith of Shawn Kilgarlin also comes through in her charity work. She focuses her support on Holy Angels, a Shreveport-based nonprofit organization that provides love, support, and empowerment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. One recent Kilgarlin family activity was to visit the Holy Angels campus during the Christmas holidays to deliver more than 75 gifts, blessing cards, and a Merry Christmas plaque.

Although I have been blessed with professional success and a wonderful family, I cannot imagine a fulfilling life without giving back to society, particularly where my contribution can truly make a difference, " she says. "It is my honor and privilege to support the tremendous work done by Holy Angels, whose mission is to provide compassionate care and high-quality living to people with intellectual developmental disabilities and delicate medical conditions.

Holy Angels was founded in 1954 as a ministry of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shreveport. In 2006, the organization transitioned to an independent 501(c) (3) organization while continuing with the same mission.
